| This photograph of our facility was taken just before it opened
in April 1961. The clinic was built by Dr. Dennis DeJong and Dr. Norris Boe to replace
their old practice, located about one mile north of this building. |
|
| Today's Salem residents might be amused that
Commercial Street was two lanes wide and had no sidewalks or bike-paths at the time. The
building was off by itself and surrounded by farmland. |
|
| When the clinic was built it was truly on the south side
of town. Since that time, Salem has sprawled, and the south side is a lot
farther south. In 1996, when
Dr. Cunningham bought the practice from Dr. DeJong, he renamed it South Salem
Veterinary Clinic, a name that fit its location more precisely since the south
side of Salem was halfway to Albany by then. |
|
| With an eye towards the future, Dr. DeJong and Dr. Boe
built a large and sturdy facility that works very well forty years after its
construction. |
